Thanks people, bit of a treading water post this, I really will try to write something soon! And I was feeling a bit crabby at the time anyway...
There's not that much you can do with these little ornamental crab apples except make jelly (jam) with them, and I can make pounds of that and still barely make a dent in the amount of fruit. The birds enjoy them later in the winter, but this damp mild weather has caused a lot of them to rot on the tree rather than blet (that word again!) in the frost.

There's a wonderful word in my dialect of German - knatschii. These apples are knatschii. ♥
