Princeling

I swore I wasn't going to do this.

We went along to see Isobel, do the done thing, make the appropriate noises. I was prepared for what Nancy Mitford described (I seem to recall ) as 'the usual sight of a wailing orange in a fine black wig'.

Seen one you've seen them all, they all look the same... baby photos are soooo boring!

Aren't they?

I wasn't prepared to be quite so charmed by Ilan.

In fact it's a long time since I've seen one quite this small, or so delicious.

Mother and baby doing well, and quite ravishingly beautiful.

A very everyday wonder.

I'm no lover of babies just because they are babies.

This one is just lovely.

Mother ad baby are both very beautiful and looking very well. Ah look at that cute nose... And Tom(?) looks like he knows how to hold a newborn.

Sometimes it seems that they all look the same, until you really look at them, and see that they are incredibly small, yet wondrously complete people. When we were in hospital with our firstborn, one of the nurses commented about our pediatrician "oh she's so fun; she treats the babies just like people."
These people in the photos are ever so lovely.

It always comes as a shock how the wee one that is part of your own family is so very distinct and different from all the others.

Utterly scrumptious. Looks like is was a good birth. It that process which sometimes turns them into goggling aliens.

Thanks all! Yes, he is a honey, isn't he?
Zhoen - no, I know what you mean, some people any old baby will do it for, whereas many I find quite uninteresting or even a bit gross! I think this one will always be a sweety.
Julie, thanks, it seems to have all turned out ok.
ML - yes, that is Tom, who, despite affecting a rather surly attitude to them, having had 4 of his own is remarkably competent with the young of the species. This is a man never without a fresh Kleenex in his pocket!
Hello Cindy, is that you from Beethoven's Ears? I love the quote about the paediatrician! I've been inclined to think claims about family resemblances in newborns are exaggerated, but then I couldn't help laughing at seeing Pascal's - his dad's - expressions passing over his face. Partly because P. is a clown (professionally, not a judgement on his character), and has been seen in a very similar shaped hat to the one Ilan was wearing, which enhanced the resemblance!
Catalyst - nice to see you! Aren't they just?
GJ indeed!
rr - well yes, after all the drama and hanging around and worry of the unsuccessful induction, he finally decided to pop out remarkably quickly, she barely had time to get to the delivery room, and with his being small also it wasn't too much of a struggle..His head was apparently a bit cone-shaped to begin with.
TG - he is really, isn't he?

Babies are a wonderous miracle! And this one is very beautiful. Congrats to the whole family!!

His face has an unusual degree of what I can only describe as "experience" written on it. Almost enough to make one believe in reincarnation!

Well , wee Ilan has certainly stolen this scene! And is that a verging on the softy comment from Dave Bonta?! I've seen it all now!
Bless you all, you're very darlings!

I'm the mum-of-the-mum and honorary
friend-of-Isobel's-special-wondrous-friends-LucyandTom. Ilan would have
melted the heart of the dad-of-the-mum, who was too soppy even to watch the
Walt Disney film Bambie. I am overawed at Isobel's instinctive move into
motherhood. And I still can't quite comprehend that Ilan's lungs are now
breathing air in this world, except when I hold his wee sweet-smelling self
against my shoulder, put my cheek against his soft cheek, stroke a teeny
hand and listen to his breathing and the little noises he makes (no I'm not
thinking nappy region here). The dad-of-the-son has done real well too.

As a serial poster of kid-pics (of my own, I ought to add...) I hope I can claim some right to make the observation that there is not a trace of the Mitford orange in this beautiful little face.

Such a glow! The new little one just radiates, doesn't he?

Aw, he's gorgeous. Especially in the second pic: so little, but complete...
