We interrupt this transmission...

... for a spot of cat-blogging. This is my lovely sister ( see why I call her that?)

and these

are her new cats. New to her, anyway. They came from a cat refuge, they are brothers and are eleven years old. The one below she's called Ziggy, three guesses why,

and his brother with the ostrich plume tail has been named Lancelot, Lancelot Blue.

I don't know their history, but they shouldn't mind being renamed, as they are, in the manner of white cats, almost completely deaf. So they will live a life of sybaritic luxury in lovely sister's light- and beauty-filled home, with supervised excursions into the little walled garden, since they won't hear traffic and are too precious to risk.

Welcome to the family, boys!

Lovely cats, and sister, and home, all!

Cats never object to being called more appropriate names (unlike Fluffy).

Funny how, from the floor, they can look you straight in the eye.

Bless your sister for taking them in.

Oh wow, just look at that Ziggy and his odd eyes. Brilliant.

They are gorgeous cats. We used to have white cats that lived behind us when we lived in London and they were completely deaf - they seemed to survive the traffic OK though. I guess their deafness is compensated for by the fact that they are easily seen.

I really miss my cat!

that is enough to make me want to become the neighborhood cat lady.

Thanks all, and welcome Jade. Knew this would bring in the Cat Frat! I can really take no credit for anything here.

I thought it was very nice of her to take them in, though she was in fact quite apologetic about choosing such beauties, but in fact I think it was really the way they looked at her! I suppose many people would hesitate over older cats with a handicap, but they seem to have attached to her very easily, Lancelot apparently sits at the top of the stairs and calls out if she's out of sight for too long.

As far as I know, Ziggy does not play guitar, but Reluctant B. spotted his odd eyes! That's true about how they look up, their heads are a little like owls' in the way they can swivel. A neighbourhood cat lady is no bad ambition!

Laughing at the 2 different eye colours. How lovely those cats are, & how obviously lucky, to find such a loving home!

Eleven years old? But they don't look that old to me! FYI, I have phobia for cats..it's difficult to explain why I'm so scared of them but now I have 5 cats in the house (including the 3 newborn kitties)..I just have to put up with them..with the help of my kids. But really, these new "nephew/niece" of yours are too cute!

Aaaaw! Reminds me of Winston.

Helli - they're blessed too I think!
Stitch and Meggie - thank you, the odd eyes are striking, aren't they?
Hliza - I didn't know that, you blog about your cats quite often! That's brave of you to have them, I'm sure cats and kids appreciate it.
RR - Oh I'd forgotten Winston! In fact I'd not forgotten him because I remembered he was deaf, but I'd forgotten his name!

Gosh, beautiful deaf cats who have to be escorted around their beautiful grounds so they don't come to harm... it sounds like a fairy tale from another culture somehow...

Lucy:
I have 2 lovely Cat Sisters.
I had them as 8 week old kittens; they're now 13.
They are very precious indeed. Both tabbies, but one ( according to our vet) has Burmese bones and she's pretty delicately made but extremely agile ( still runs like a gazelle!) whereas the other is longer and lazier and looks like a comfy pillow...

I thought maybe I was supposed to "get" why the name Ziggy, and was thinking I was really out of it, but you're really asking for guesses? Does this cat zigzag around the house?

Whatever, they are both beautiful, and I wish them a very happy life.

No, he's Ziggy Stardust, because he's got one blue and one yellow eye!

Don't worry about it!:~)

Gorgeous cats! I used to have a white one called Dido but it never occurred to us that she might be deaf.

I think our black ones might be deaf, though... this could explain why they don't pay any attention when we say "No"...

i'm not sure what i did wrong...i posted a comment earlier and came back to add to it but i see that the first one somehow did not make it...anyway...now my brain forgets what i was going to add!!! Oh my...

what i said was something like:
Your sister and her new cats are all gorgeous!! And i also said something in a comment re q and cordial:
Big congrats to you, Lucy!! Superb job on editing collaboration on q...and i'm totally jealous...our elderflower does not make good cordial...only wine that i don't care about.

I'm sorry to hear that Zephyr, you're here now, though!

Thanks for kind words. I seem to remember when I came across your blog we had an exchange about your elderflowers being without fragrance you can use. I'm surprised no-one's introduced the European one at any point, it's very resilient, unless it cross-pollinates with the native one and degenerates...

What stunning faces, all three of them. If I told you how much I admire your photos and writing, you'd be embarrassed, Lucy. So I won't. (But, really, I never stop being wowed by what I find here.) As for elderflowers---now I wish I hadn't given the two in my garden the old heave-ho.
