Horse's kisses

Her eyes are cabochons of agate in the copper of her head,

reflecting a dome of blue, an arc of green,

and me, with the one, curious jet-black eye over most of my face.

Until her sister's fragrant, dewy muzzle shoves that out the way, demanding horse's kisses:

you breathe up my nose and I'll breath up yours - huff huff!

Oh goodness, you almost persuaded that it would be nice to be near a horse. But not quite. I like them from a distance but they're a bit big for me. And horse breath... hmm.

Beautiful. I wish I could comfortably be that close to horses. Unfortunately, it's a good way for me to have an asthma attack. They're such marvelous creatures, though.

Ha! Aren't they beautiful. A coworker of mine sent photos of her aunt's horse and new foal today. I miss seeing horses everyday on my walks where I used to live.

Glad the email saga sorted!

Thank you.

They are still just babies really, a year old, but incredibly gentle and trustworthy. I've known them since they were born, and have no worries about ducking under the fence or sitting down among their hooves. When they were very young and still with their mothers I was a little more cautious, especially with Mol, as the mares can be protective. Now when I pass I have to stop for a chat as they come over to the fence and I'm sure they'd be disappointed if I didn't. I never give them any food though, as I think that's what can make them a bit pushy.

I had to look up cabochon. The way eyes reflect as well as see always fascinates. Stirring photographs. There's something miraculous about horses, which you can forget with over familiarity.

Horses hate me but I can still enjoy them in pictures.

Plutarch - indeed, They even get an 'Explorers' sonnet! Cabochon came to mind - I did check it was what I thought it was, though!
Hliza - these are the local traditional horses that used to wrk on the farms, now they're kept as a hobby by farmers and retired farmers. The national stud who want to keep the breed alive give them lots of practical help.
JZR - thanks! It's easy to get up close to them, and they're very placid.
Mike - these babies wouldn't hate you, they're just like big puppies!

I love horses. But, my secret is, they terrify me!
