This is wonderful, and heart-lifting!

It'll be another month for us. But ever year I have to listen to my mom recite that damn poem, as dependable as the spring itself.

Well worth clicking to enlarge and well clicked you! Looking at the daffodils to a few minutes ago, I thought of doing something similar, but I wouln't have done it as well. That damn poem is still good if only we could come to it for the first time.

I made it HUGE as possible because it's so lovely.
All of it.

Isn't it amazing how many shapes and colours of daffodils we have nowadays? Wordsworth would be amazed (I assume). Beautiful patchworky thing.

Lovely collage, Lucy! I wish Picasa was mac compatible. Then again, if I started to play with that I may never get away from the computer, so I guess it's a mixed blessing :)

Thank you, Lucy. My late Mom remembered that poem last winter and recited it as I read it to her.

What a delight! Especially since we are at least a couple of weeks from our first daffodils.

Thank you!

I find I have quite a lot to say on this, so I think I'll make a new post about it!

Dave - yeah, that happens. But I hazard you'll remember her doing so fondly one day...
Joe - please make a collage! and thank you for pleading the case for the daffs! ( I think perhaps Wordsworth's real favourite flowers were celandines)
Isabelle - indeed, but you still can't really beat the little wild ones.
Julie - and I didn't know Picasa wasn't Mac-compatible! It's really very rudimentary, there are probably a dozen more clever things you can do with other software, but I rather like its simplicity.

Coming in to the discussion rather late, I have to confess that daffodils are my favourite flowers and so it really is a delight to find them here. The ones against water are great.

I love it! I love it!

I'd love to have a poster of this! Would you mind if I tried making one?

What a great idea. I love the way it combines a deep and abiding loyalty to the daffodil - and perhaps to Willy W as well, with a slightly wry comment on the rather boring reliability of the poem's regular recurrence every year. Or am I just imagining it?!

Lucy,

I love daffodils and make no apology for it. Although yellow is my least favorite flower color in a summer garden, when it is Feb/March -- and when we've been buried in GRAY for months -- those bright yellow frilled faces are the perfect antidote.

BTW, did you see my post about Dorothy Wordsworth? Apparently, according to the new biography of her, William ripped the famous image of the daffodil straight out of her Grasmere Journal.

What a lovely collage! You could sell it as a poster. :-)

I had to google to find the Wordsworth poem - oh yeah, the beginning is familiar, though I'm not sure I've ever read the whole thing. I haven't had the benefit of a literary family, so I suppose I do come to it unjaded. I'd kill to see daffodils coming up right now! (Looking out on 6 inches of fresh snow.)
