Late marigolds at Christmas

Last from the summer wildflower patch, scarce, scruffy and storm-battered, but I'm too lazy/softhearted/busy-with-other-things/fairweather-a-gardener to mow them.

The wind and weather finally blew out the internet, and the phone, last night, and they've not that long been back.  Now the lull between storms, and we dry out and try not to worry about what the next lot might bring. But we are so blessed, really, and have so much.

So love and best wishes my dears, hugs and hands outstretched to the friends I make and have made here, thank you for coming, for coming back, for all the things you have brought me; I wish you the very best of Christmases, and peace, love and hope for the coming year.

Frohes Weihnachtsfest dearest Lucy and Tom and Mol! The scruffy Marigolds have a good home for the holiday. May any storms ahead be soft ones. Sending you all a big hug (extra fur ruffles for sweet Mol) and all best in all things! ♪ ♫ ♪♪♪

Such a bright bit of summer clinging in your winter.

Joy to you.

What treasures at the end of the year - loved ones, friends, a furry companion, and sunny colors to bring in from the wild.

I hope you have many more like this. Happy new year, Lucy (and Tom, of course!)

Lucy dear. Thank you for your kindnesses over the years and for the refreshment your work brings to me. I hope you find your heart's desire this season. And my best to Tom and to that DOG! I live with a dog now as well as a cat. Hmph murfle. A cat you just pass and pass again and throw down some food once in a while. A dog you actually have to attend.

Gosh, nearly a big boo-boo there. Triggered by your photo I launched (only within my head, thank goodness) into an anecdote about creating questions for a quiz, thinking I'd got a winner, but not having allowed for Joe being in the audience. "Who was the author of a few late marigolds" was the question which, as it happens, Joe would have found very hard to answer. I was in the thrall of your photo, you see. A moment of uncharacteristic caution overtook me and I resorted to Google. The correct question was "Who was the author of A few late chrysanthemums?", the answer being, need I tell you, John Betjeman.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for launching my mind into a whole raft of projects and speculations most of which ended up better resolved than this one.
