Birthday

Amid all the concern it almost passed me by that Box Elder is one year old today.

It's original subheading was 'A good enough place to start'. It was dark blue. I explained why it was called Box Elder very briefly in the first post, and wrote about the box elder tree in question at greater length a bit later. The writing looks to me now wobbly, apologetic, little-me-ish, and rather waffling, so I suppose that must mean it's improved a bit ( don't say a word!). There weren't many pictures, partly because I was still on dial-up then, and they took ages to upload, even when I got the hang of shrinking them. I used to go off-line while writing posts to save dial-up time, and Blogger continually upbraided me with warnings for doing so. I did occasionally lose the lot when I forgot. It all seems such a long time ago.

I hardly knew any of you then, and my first comment was from another new blogger called Moe in Maryland, who hasn't blogged since last Easter, I still sometimes check on him. Then darling rr sniffed me out ( she it was got me started), and then... but the rest is history. Not very significant history, but my on-line history anyway! And I'm very grateful and filled with love and affection for all of you.

Happy birthday to the beautiful Box Elder, with many more to come!

Ah no Zhoen! It was Brother Bartleby who brought you to me; he said he'd come to you following me, and he wondered why, and it was all very odd because although I read at yours I'd never linked or commented there, and you thought he was perhaps making a light metaphor but were curious enough to come and say hello, and I was really pleased because I'd felt a bit shy about approaching you... and I think he was something to do with how Robin Starfish got here too? I sort of see him as a rather mercurial, occasional and elusive good angel to me, and regard being on his blogroll as one of my most remarkable blogging achievements!

Jan - I had to think about you for a minute, but I believe I met you via Marly's, who showed up here via via negativa(I always like writing that!) and/or the Festival of the Trees...

Happy first blog birthday, Lucy! I've loved it from the day I discovered it, via a mention by rr, I think. I'm so happy to count you as a dear virtual friend. And, though you didn't want it mentioned, your blog HAS developed from good to excellent. Cheers!

Happy Blogday! I remember that little-me stage; I didn't comment for a while becasue it wasn't even clear you wanted a public audience. I'm glad you're on high-speed now. The writing and photos together make this a very enjoyable place to visit.

Happy bloggiversary! I found you via Robin (and found Bro. Bartleby the same way at about the same time). I'm so glad I did - I've learned some good photo skills, for one thing (I never would have figured out the macro setting if you hadn't blogged it), and frankly there's just so much depth here. Your blog and you are marvelous!

I am enjoying all this mutual admiration! Also I like exploring blog connections, who knew who first, going to one place and finding someone I know already, it's one of the fascinations.
I was reading Zhoen through Tall Girl first, and Robin come to Compasses first then I went there, and to Julie's through Robin's...
Marja Leena and Dave I used to see a lot at rr's even before I started my own, and I was very pleased and flattered when they came to visit, they being real 'bloggers' bloggers'! And first getting 'smorged' was a real high spot!

Joyeux blogiversaire, Lucy (the only version that hasn't been used yet). I assumed that you'd been at it a lot longer. Whatever wobbles you might have had at the start, you run a fine blog now & I'm glad that our paths crossed.

Meggie, thank you, you're not so bad yourself! I found you through Catalyst when he said he'd got the soundtrack music idea from you so I thought I'd go and see; glad I did!
JZR - you came to Compasses first didn't you? I don't know how, was it via Nina at Ornamental? That was quite lately, just after you'd done your Arctic Circle trip?
Dick - 'blogiversaire' is a good coinage! Saw you around a lot and checked you out via Tall Girl, Dave, Zhoen... didn't start visiting you regularly until recently because you seemed a bit of a dauntingly clever real poet... I've got over that now fortunately!
(Vid digger - that's a surprisingly cool and kosher site you have.)

Hurrah! Looking forward to the next year with BE

A year? Can it really be that long? But when I think back to the riches you've shared here, the many, many thoughtful and beautifully expressed words and pictures... well it does seem that it must have been at least a year. Long may you continue, and I'll certainly continue reading. xxx

Well done, Lucy! It's always an enjoyable visit, both words and pictures, at Box Elder. For the record, I believe our common root was the Festival of the Trees.

TG - you need no explanation!
Jean - I saw you a lot over at Frizzy's, then at TG, I think we started visisting gradually. The first post of yours I remember being really moved by was your 'Half a person' one.
GJ - ah, that was it, was it? You appeared a bit after that ansd since you've brought a lot of lovely connections...
