Leguminous

Peas and broad beans really are the most worthwhile things to grow.  Most other veg really I can buy cheaply or be given just as good if not better than I can grow in season anyway,  but with these you can never get better than out of the garden.

And the peas put so much effort into getting there,

and broad beans would be worth growing for their black and white flowers.

Probably more garden stuff to come.

lovely. i was planning on putting in some small stuff out on the balcony but planting season's so late here (mid may, if you're lucky) and we'll be in portugal for 3 weeks, so i haven't bothered. will probably just put in some old-fashioned geraniums when we come back. but it's always pleasant to share in your (visual) garden bounty. thank you!

I look forward to it. I am planting beans for the nitrogen fixing.

Hmmm. I am reminded of my love for pea soup.

Gorgeous photos as always. I love your bean flowers. This makes me wish, again, for a proper vegetable garden. At our previous home, I did have a small one, and one year grew beans with pretty scarlet flowers.

Thanks all.

Tristan - no, I think they're legetarians...

R - I too love pea soup, with the fresh ones all you need is to lightly poach them in some chicken stock and that's it, no mouli-ing, nothing. I also love pea sandwiches with them, mash them a little onto brown bread and butter with some pepper. Yum!

It's amazing what seeing these little pea vine closeups does. Thanks for helping me not take things for granted.
